Nation IN BRIEF : NEW YORK : Marchers Protest Youth’s Slaying
From Times staff and Wire reports
Demonstrators led by the Rev. Al Sharpton marched in a Brooklyn neighborhood after a police officer shot and killed a teen-ager who pointed a gun at him. Robert Cole, 13, was carrying 35 vials of crack cocaine and the unloaded gun when confronted by the officer. Cole was the third teen-ager shot to death by police in a week in New York City and the eighth civilian killed this year, officials said. Sharpton’s demonstration had already been planned to protest the earlier deaths of the other teen-agers.
