Martin, tied with distance runner Diana Richburg for the top spot last week, took sole possession of first place by beating co-world record-holder Joyner-Kersee in the 55-meter high hurdles in the Meadowlands Invitational Friday night at East Rutherford, N.J.

After eight Grand Prix meets, Martin has 49 points. Richburg, fifth-place finisher in the mile at the Meadowlands Invitational, is second with 42 points.
