Blaze Double Trouble for Firefighters
Firefighters were called twice within seven hours to put out a blaze that damaged a Laguna Beach duplex during the early part of the weekend, police said.
A police spokeswoman said firefighters first responded to a fire at the two-story duplex in the 300 block of Flora Street about 8:10 p.m. Friday when a man in the lower unit reported seeing smoke coming down from his ceiling.
The occupants of the upper unit, where the fire apparently started, were not at home, police said.
It took firefighters about 15 minutes to extinguish that blaze.
However, firefighters were called back about 2:45 a.m. Saturday. Despite heavy overnight rainfall, the embers rekindled, police said.
About 22 firefighters, including a team from the Orange County Fire Department, contained the blaze. The upper story of an adjacent house suffered minor damage.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation Saturday, the spokesman said.
