Monrovia : Trash Collection Pact OKd
Automated trash collection and curbside recycling should be available citywide by May 1, under an agreement to transfer the city’s trash collection contract from Best Disposal to National Environmental Waste Co.
The City Council on Tuesday approved the agreement, requiring that NEWCO cooperate with Best Disposal to provide uninterrupted service during the transition. NEWCO is in the process of purchasing Best.
Best has been struggling financially since last spring, and this month filed for bankruptcy protection. The transfer agreement approved Tuesday is contingent upon Best obtaining approval of the sale from the federal bankruptcy court.
Best, which also serves Arcadia, Bradbury and Duarte, requires approval from those cities to transfer its contract to NEWCO. Arcadia already has approved the transfer.
