WORLD : Birth of 2-Headed Girl Reported
A southeast Bulgarian woman has given birth to a girl with two heads, the official news agency BTA reported today.
The baby, delivered by Cesarean section, is well and feeding normally, said the news agency, quoting doctors at the Chirpan hospital where she was born.
The news agency reported that the surgeon who delivered the baby said a second, partially formed head was growing from the head of the otherwise normal infant in what the doctor described as a “well-known malformation in the medical practice.”
“The second head has no ears, eyes or nose but has its own brain,” Dr. Peter Vulkanov was quoted as saying.
The report did not say when the infant was born or whether surgery was planned to remove the second head.
