Federal and local narcotics agents raided an “ice” lab in Carson on Tuesday, seizing 50 pounds of the crystallized methamphetamine and arresting two people in the first such bust in Southern California, authorities said.

The raid in the 400 block of West Fiat Street was carried out by Los Angeles police officers, sheriff’s deputies and Drug Enforcement Administration agents.

Police Cmdr. William Booth said investigators also seized $24,000 in cash and a dozen loaded firearms. The street value of the drugs and the identities of the two suspects arrested were not immediately known.

Known on the street as “ice” because of its appearance, crystallized methamphetamine is being used at epidemic levels in Hawaii, and authorities have warned that ice could surpass crack cocaine in sales and users.
