SOC IT TO ME: U2 is always involved in some cause, right, but what better cause than . . . the World Cup? An ardent soccer fan, U2 drummer Larry Mullen has composed “Put ‘Em Under Pressure,” Ireland’s official World Cup theme song. He plays drums on the record, while Clannad’s Maire Brennan handles the vocals, along with 15 golden-throated members of the Irish soccer squad. (Geez mates--where are Rod Stewart and Elton John when England’s team needs them?). The song’s available as an import from Mother Records. . . . Doesn’t it seem as if there’s a new dance club opening every week? The latest entry: The Roxbury, located on Sunset at the site of the late, lamented Imperial Gardens. Owned by a consortium of music-industry types, including the rock management team of Lippman/Kahane, the club offers three floors of activity, with a jazz lounge, restaurant and weekend dance club. The club’s superstar quotient last weekend included Eddie Murphy, Arsenio Hall, Eric Clapton, Spike Lee, George Michael and Andrew Ridgeway (don’t worry--the ex-Wham crooners arrived separately).
