WORLD IN BRIEF : PERU : Japan Pledges Help, President-Elect Says
President-elect Alberto Fujimori won a round in his battle to reopen the foreign aid flow by securing Japan’s pledge to send an economic cooperation mission to Peru. “Mr. Kaifu clearly understood our economic problems,” Fujimori told reporters in Tokyo after meeting Japanese Prime Minister Toshiki Kaifu. Japanese officials said Kaifu also promised to send a group of economic advisers to help the Lima government draw up a retrenchment strategy. The Japanese economic experts will go to Lima after Fujimori’s inauguration July 28.
