Norwalk : Quarterly Trash Collection Bills to Show 10% Rate Hike

Share

The City Council has approved a 10% rate increase for trash service in Norwalk.

The average quarterly bill for residents will be $28.63, up from $26.01. Businesses will now pay $60.53 for a three-yard bin. The old rate was $54.91.

The rate increase, which was approved Monday night and becomes effective immediately, was based on the rise in the consumer price index, dumping fees and other costs in the multi-city area served by Consolidated Disposal Service and Jackson Disposal Service.

The firms also proposed that a limit be set on the amount of trash the firms would pick up from residents and businesses without an additional charge.

The council denied the request because it could discourage residents from keeping the city clean.
