NATION : 3rd Witness Says Barry Snorted
A former business partner of the ex-model who participated in a sting operation against Marion Barry testified today that she saw the mayor snort cocaine from a straw during a 1986 party.
Carole Bland Jackson said the drug use occurred in the bathroom of a Washington apartment after a 1986 city-sponsored cruise on the Potomac River to which Barry had invited Rasheeda Moore. Moore and Jackson worked together on Project Me, a self-esteem modeling program for teen-age girls that Barry asked Moore to set up.
“The mayor and Rasheeda were sitting on the side of the bathtub and . . . cocaine was visible,” Jackson testified. “I snorted first, then Rasheeda took it, then the other gentleman and Mayor Barry.” She did not identify the other man.
Jackson was the third witness in Barry’s drug and perjury trial to testify that she actually saw him use drugs.
Jackson said she left the apartment a short time later, after “the mayor came out and made sexual advances towards me, which I declined.”
