An Escondido man convicted of shooting at an Escondido city councilman who chased him after a gang-related, drive-by shooting that left a teen-ager wounded was sentenced Friday to nine years in state prison.

Martin Ochoa, 22, received the maximum sentence from Superior Court Judge Laura Hammes.

Ochoa was convicted May 14 of three counts of assault with a deadly weapon and one count of conspiracy to commit an assault.

Escondido City Councilman Kris Murphy testified that he heard gunshots Nov. 25, 1989, as he was leaving a hamburger stand and followed the gunman in his car.

Murphy said Ochoa shot at him and missed during the pursuit, but 17-year-old Salvador Santoyo was shot in the thigh and body while he was standing at a parking lot at North Cedar Street and East Valley Parkway.
