Last year, more than 30,000 people in Orange County experienced the dissolution of their marriage, according to Bill Flanagan, single adults minister of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Newport Beach. “The numbers reveal a problem and tragedy of epidemic proportions” and the figures on second marriages are even more alarming, he said. Close to 65% of those unions end in divorce, he added.

Since 1977, Flanagan has conducted Divorce Recovery Workshops across the country. Offered semi-annually since 1981, this workshop has attracted more than 6,000 individuals from Orange County and beyond. It is thought to be the largest seminar of its kind in Southern California.

The Divorce Recovery Workshop will begin Sept. 27 and continue on Thursday evenings through Nov.1 at St. Andrew’s, 600 St. Andrews Road. The workshop registration fee is $20, which includes the book “Growing Through Divorce” and refreshments. Child care for infants through second grade is available free of charge by reservation. Supervised study for third- through sixth-graders is available by reservation for the first three weeks.. A children’s department program will be offered the last three weeks of the workshop.
