Seed Collection Is Threatened: A National Academy of Sciences study confirmed earlier fears, saying that nearly half the precious samples in the nation’s primary seed bank at Ft. Collins, Colo., are in critical danger of vanishing. The study found that 45% of the samples contained fewer than 550 seeds, meaning that they are in critical danger of vanishing as the seeds age and die.
