Children, Woman Attack Officers

Three San Diego policemen were injured Thursday afternoon by four children, ages 5 to 11, and the adult woman with whom they were riding, after she ordered them to attack the officers, who had stopped her for a routine traffic violation, authorities said.

Nika Brackett, 30, was taken into custody shortly after 4 p.m., but not before she and the four children had launched a biting and hitting attack against the three officers, who suffered shoulder and hand injuries.

Brackett was stopped at 47th and Market streets but told the officers that because she was a Black Muslim she did not have to cooperate, said Sgt. Fred England, spokesman for the Police Department.

She then ordered the children to “attack the officers, which they did,” England said.

Brackett was later booked into County Jail on assault with a deadly weapon, for using a screwdriver in the attack, and with battery and resisting arrest.

Brackett’s 11-year-old daughter was placed in Juvenile Hall, England said, for battery and resisting arrest.
