Cable Provider Announces Spinoff: Tele-Communications Inc. said it would spin off its main programming interests into a separate company to stockholders. The Denver-based company, which provides service to one in four U.S. cable subscribers, said its board had approved a plan under which stockholders would get the right to exchange some of their stock for stock in the new company, Liberty Media Corp. The deal is subject to approval by federal and state authorities as well as some of the cable giant’s equity partners and lenders.
