La Puente : Traffic Safety Fair Held

Share

About 1,000 people, most of them kindergarten through sixth-grade pupils, attended a Safety Belt Checkpoint and Traffic Safety Fair last week.

The fair’s high point was a brief appearance by two seat belt commercial stars, crash dummies Vince and Larry, said Sheriff’s Sgt. Bob Wilson of the Industry substation. “The kids recognized them immediately from their television commercials and mobbed them,” he said.

“Buckle up buddies,” small stuffed animals that cling to seat belts, were given to buckled drivers and safety belt brochures were distributed to drivers who failed to use their belts.

The fair was conducted by the California Highway Patrol and Los Angeles County’s Sheriff’s, Fire and Parks, and Recreation departments and the La Puente Valley Chamber of Commerce.
