A 14-year-old suspected gang member was killed and another was wounded Friday in a drive-by shooting in Carson, sheriff’s deputies said.

Eddie Carranza, 14, was pronounced dead at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center at 8:43 p.m., said Deputy Mary Landreth of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. The victim’s companion, a 16-year-old girl whose name was withheld because of her age, was treated for gunshot wounds in one hand and both legs, said Lt. Paul Harman of the Sheriff’s Department. Police said both shooting victims belonged to a local gang.

Witnesses said the gunmen shouted gang slogans before the shooting, which occurred about 8 p.m. in front of a home in the 22000 block of South Ravenna Avenue in Carson, Harman said. Sheriff’s homicide detectives are investigating, but have no suspects.
