John Greiner, a 14-year resident of San Juan Capistrano, has been appointed to the city’s Planning Commission.

Greiner, 52, will fill the commission seat formerly held by Gil Jones, who was elected to the City Council last November. He is the Southern California regional human resources manager for Allstate Insurance.

Greiner, a trustee of the Olive Crest Foundation, is chairman of the Orange County chapter of the March of Dimes. He is married and has three children.

“I’ve seen a lot of changes come about in my 14 years here, and since I plan on living here the rest of my life, I’d like to have some sort of say on what else occurs,” Greiner said. “I like to see growth and progress, but I’d like to see it managed for all the residents of the city. I’m concerned about uncontrolled growth.”

Greiner will complete Jones’ unexpired term, which ends in June. All commissioners serve one-year terms through June 30.
