PLATFORM : Principles of Unity

The events in the Middle East during and since the Gulf War did not change the facts or the minds of the Cousins Club of Orange County. In 1988, following an exhaustive debate between the Jewish and Palestinian members of the club, we adopted three principles of unity, calling on the U.S. government to: 1) recognize the need for establishing a Palestinian state; 2) recognize the PLO as the legitimate representative, and 3) support the convening of an international conference.

These conclusions remain valid. The sooner these calls are adhered to and implemented, the sooner will that region see lasting peace. Circumventing these principles will only inevitably lead to another Mideast war. The founding of a Palestinian state remains the only option if we seek lasting peace between Israel and its neighbors.
