Locals Should Pay for Creek Dam
It appears that Mr. T.J. Meadows, general manager for the San Juan Basin Authority, is bothered only by “beautiful water going out to the ocean,” in Caspers Wilderness Park (“Rains Revive San Juan Creek Dam Idea,” April 14).
The 1989 San Juan Basin Authority fact sheet states that dam sites on the San Juan Creek near Chiquita Canyon and at the Foothill Transportation Corridor intersection are also being investigated. If that escaping water bothers Meadows so much, why not advocate dams there or in Chiquita Canyon or Gobernadora Canyon?
If the need is genuine, then the San Juan Basin Authority should be willing to purchase land from private landowners. The public is not well served by making a grab for our critically short riparian wilderness areas.
