San Diego police arrested three suspects Saturday in connection with the beating death of a 26-year-old woman whose body was found in a Balboa Park drainage ditch, said Police Chief Bob Burgreen.

The murder appears to have been drug-related, police said in a statement.

The victim was identified as Theresa Ann Holloway of San Diego. A stranded motorist discovered her body Friday morning in a ditch along the northbound lanes of Highway 163 in Balboa Park, just south of the Quince Street exit, authorities said.

An autopsy determined that the victim died of head injuries and strangulation, according to the county Medical Examiner’s office.

Witness statements and physical evidence led investigators to the 4600 block of 39th Street, where police arrested two suspects--a 17-year-old woman, whose identity was withheld because she is a juvenile, and Robert Jurado, 20, who is unemployed. Later in the day police arrested a third suspect, Denise R. Shigemura, 22, of San Diego, who is employed as a food server in the Mission Valley area, police said.

No further details were available on the case.
