JAKARTA : Cambodian Deadline
The four parties to the civil war in Cambodia meet in the Indonesian capital beginning Sunday in another effort to reach agreement on a United Nations proposal for a political settlement in the country.
It will be the second meeting of Cambodia’s Supreme National Council, which broke up in disarray last September over seating arrangements. The plan calls for the United Nations to take over administration of the country for an interim period leading up to free elections in about one year.
The Khmer Rouge guerrilla faction, which is taking part in the negotiations, has warned that if there is no progress this time, the civil war will be resumed June 5.
