More Shots Are Fired in the Evolutionary War

A bouquet of orchids to Emily Long of Capistrano Valley High School for her defense of the concept of separation of church and state. She understands what a lot of her elders seem to have trouble with: that an espousal of any religious creed by any branch of government, or tax supported institution (e.g. schools) can lead to the sort of religious persecution that Europe had to endure during the Inquisition. Our Founding Fathers knew this, and so does Emily Long. But not John Peloza, or the school district that employs him, apparently.

Why is the Mission Viejo school district allowing him to proselytize students on religion? They are guilty, it seems to me, of an abridgment of religious freedom. And Mr. Peloza is guilty of lack of tolerance. The future is bright, however, when we have students of the caliber of Emily Long in our high schools. More power to you, Emily. I’m in your corner.
