More Shots Are Fired in the Evolutionary War
Contrary to the “Highlights” summary that appeared next to Ms. Klein’s column, John Peloza does not teach “ ‘purposeful design’ instead of evolution.” He does, rather, teach evolution, warts and all. His students are simply recognizing the errors of evolutionary theory by using their own brains. The issue of “purposeful design” comes up because they are becoming critical thinkers and considering possible alternatives to a theory with serious flaws.
Emily Long says she is “against mixing religion with the state.” She’s confused about this point. Evolution is the religion--one that is being taught as authoritative and not to be questioned. Miss Long should be far more concerned about a state that requires blind adherence to any dogma and seeks to destroy freedom of thought in the classroom.
John Peloza is not teaching religion. He is being attacked because he dares to let students question the state religion.
