Gangs Feel the Heat of a Summertime Sweep

Share

A sweep by 50 Inglewood police officers of a neighborhood south of Hollywood Park has resulted in 26 arrests for probation violations, 10 impounded vehicles and 55 traffic citations. The crackdown, conducted last Friday with help from the county probation department and California Youth Authority, aroused plenty of comment in the neighborhood: Some called out their support; others resentfully termed it harassment. Inglewood Mayor Edward Vincent will meet with community leaders tonight to announce regular gang sweeps this summer.
