Nation IN BRIEF : FLORIDA : Tabloid Files Court Papers in Rape Case
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
The supermarket tabloid charged with illegally identifying the woman in the Kennedy rape case filed hundreds of pages of documents in court in Palm Beach, Fla., in its effort to get the charges dropped. The Globe in May published the name, biographical details and photographs of the woman who accused William Kennedy Smith of raping her Easter weekend at his family’s estate. Smith has pleaded innocent to rape and battery charges. A Florida law bans identifying the victim of a rape or sexual battery.
