National Journal Is Sued: A $10.5-million federal lawsuit accuses the National Journal of stealing a Virginia publisher’s plans to create a daily congressional newsletter to be transmitted by fax machine. Also named a defendant is the Journal’s parent, Times Mirror Co., owner of the Los Angeles Times. The suit contends that the Journal, which publishes a weekly public policy magazine, gained access to the ideas, research and marketing plans of Bulletin Broadfaxing Network of Alexandria, Va., by opening and later dropping negotiations to buy the company. The Journal denied the accusations.
