Charles Woolery a Hero to Blacks

Share

As far as we are concerned, Charles Woolery is a hero. That is why our association recently bestowed its first Certificate of Honor on Mr. Woolery. He is our hero because he stuck to his guns, not in spite of the evidence, but because of it. He upheld his principles courageously.

There are some who will say Mr. Woolery subverted the Dickey-Ramsey trial. Some will say he is a malcontent. Others will say we could do more with our time and energy than cast our support with such a man--and we will smile in the face of his detractors. Our answer: Are you upset because there is a black man in Long Beach who can’t and will not be co-opted nor browbeaten by the majority opinion? How do you know Mr. Woolery prejudged the officer’s guilt unless you have prejudged Mr. Woolery?

We stand proudly by him.
