Firms Agree to Cut Emissions: William K. Reilly, administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, said 236 of 600 companies contacted have agreed to reduce plant emissions of 17 toxic chemicals an average of 50% by 1995. The steps, he said, would cut by 200 million pounds such toxic substances as lead, mercury and cadmium. The commitments were made under a voluntary EPA program. Among California-based participants are Arco Products Co., Los Angeles; Chevron Corp., San Francisco; Hewlett-Packard Corp., Palo Alto, and Northrop Corp.’s Hawthorne facilities.
