GM to Recall Some Cars Built at Van Nuys Plant

General Motors Corp. said Monday that it was recalling about 196,000 Chevrolet Camaros, Pontiac Firebirds and Pontiac Fieros because of faulty parking brakes. The auto maker didn’t indicate how many of each type of car was being recalled.

The Camaros and Firebirds were built at GM’s Van Nuys plant, which has long been the sole source of the sporty cars. GM announced last week that it is closing the plant next summer and moving production of the Firebirds and Camaros to Canada.

The Camaros and Firebirds being recalled are from model years 1982 to 1986. Only cars with manual transmissions and rear disc brakes are part of the recall, GM said.
