Pacific Exchange Against Earlier Trading: The Pacific Stock Exchange has voted to oppose a New York Stock Exchange proposal to begin the working day 30 minutes earlier. Both exchanges currently open at 9:30 a.m. EDT, but the NYSE has said an earlier start would help it recapture business lost to overseas markets. The American Stock Exchange has followed the NYSE’s lead, saying it too wants to start business a half hour early. The Pacific Stock Exchange said it could accommodate an earlier start, but that its board saw no benefit to investors.
