Doing Business / FIBERGLASS FABRICATION : Their Specialty Is Diversification of Product Line

From camper shells to park benches, Austin Plastics Inc. is turning out fiberglass products of all sorts at its plant in Huntington Beach.

Brothers Jeff and John Silver founded the company a year ago after working for other companies for about 20 years.

Their company’s first year’s sales hit $1.2 million and this year the men expect to see $1.5 million in sales.

“The reason we’re successful is we’re diversified,” John Silver said. “We don’t specialize in one market.”

Manufacturers will often walk in with a sketch of a part they need crafted in fiberglass. Austin will make the necessary molds and create the products.

Unlike some other shops, Silver said Austin will also do final assembly of the finished products. The company employs 15 workers.
