Red Line Segment Clears Environmental Hurdles
Federal officials have approved environmental clearances for the third segment of the Metro Red Line, from Hollywood to North Hollywood, Brian Clymer, director of the federal Urban Mass Transit Administration said Wednesday.
“The actual record (of the decision) will come out in a few days, after we’ve had a chance to draft it,” Clymer told reporters during a tour of the Metro Red Line station at 4th and Hill streets downtown.
The first, 4.4-mile segment of the Red Line is scheduled to open in 1993, offering service between Union Station and MacArthur Park. The second, 6.7-mile segment is scheduled to open in stages in 1996 and 1998. The third, 6.3-mile segment is scheduled to open in 2001, by law at the same time as Orange Line segments west to Pico and San Vicente boulevards and east to Whittier and Atlantic boulevards.
