California IN BRIEF : MADERA : Paraplegic Hurt as Blanket Catches Fire

A paraplegic Madera-area woman who tried vainly to put out a burning electric blanket by slapping the flames with her hands was reported in critical but stable condition Tuesday. Lori Ruddle, 32, sustained third-degree burns when a faulty electric blanket caught fire in her home at Madera Acres, firefighters reported. The woman, who is paralyzed below the waist, was hospitalized at Valley Medical Center in Fresno.
