Share

A memorial service for longtime Simi Valley activist William F. Gress will be held today at Reardon Simi Valley Memorial Mortuary.

The service is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the mortuary chapel at 2636 Sycamore Drive, Reardon officials said. A private cremation service was held earlier.

Gress was 57 when he suffered a heart attack on Nov. 17 while hammering a nail into some shelving.

The memorial service was delayed to give Lois Gress time to recover from a mild heart attack she suffered immediately after her husband’s death, Reardon officials said.

William Gress, an electrician, was known to residents for his haranguing of the City Council. Gress had been attending council meetings since 1978, and despite his disagreements with the governing panel, was well-liked by city officials.

Besides his wife, Lois, Gress is survived by his son, Brian; stepson, Ira Zahler, and stepdaughter, Pamela Zahler.
