ANAHEIM : Man to Face Charges That He Killed Baby
A 34-year-old man is scheduled to face charges today that he killed his girlfriend’s 20-month-old baby.
Robert Miranda Gomez and live-in companion Lauralee Daniels, 35, took Karen Daniels to UCI Medical Center on Jan. 5 for the baby’s head injuries. Detectives became suspicious when the couple said the infant fell out of her crib, because the explanation did not fit with Karen’s critical condition, Sgt. John R. Kolbo said.
The child died at 4 p.m. Saturday while in the intensive care unit. Sunday’s autopsy showed the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the left rear of her head, Kolbo said.
Gomez was arrested Sunday, police said.
He and Daniels, who live at Pampas Apartments in the 1600 block of Pampas Lane, also gave conflicting statements under questioning, police said.
“Our investigation led us to believe that he was responsible for” the child’s death, Kolbo said. “I’m not at all sure she knew what happened.”
