COUNTYWIDE : Center Opens for Swallowing Ailments
UCI Medical Center has opened a center for swallowing disorders.
“For some people an impaired ability to swallow can be a little uncomfortable,” said the center’s co-director, Dr. Roger Crumley. But, he said, “for others it can be life-threatening.”
According to Crumley, a variety of problems including nerve or muscle disorders, stroke, respiratory illness, medical procedures, surgery or even radiation therapy can cause hoarseness, voice changes or pain when swallowing.
The center will offer an outpatient diagnostic and treatment program.
The center is located in Pavilion II at the UCI hospital, 101 The City Drive, Orange. For information, call (714) 937-8842.
