Nippon Alleges Spying Incident
Nippon Challenge tactician John Cutler said the America 3 inflatable chase boat may have been taking underwater photographs of challenger boats as it hounded them before Tuesday’s races.
Cutler said the defense boat came so close to his boat that “our chase boat had to come up and get in between to keep them away.
“They were only about 10 feet away and seemed to have some sort of underwater camera operating out of a hatch in the back.”
The point would be to photograph the secret keels and other underwater appendages of the boats.
