THOUSAND OAKS : City to Realign Road as Safety Measure
The city of Thousand Oaks will begin realigning a road this week where a 16-year-old girl was killed in a car accident in 1990.
The construction will take place at a section of Moorpark Road near Greenridge Street where the road curves sharply. Neighborhood residents have said the grade of the intersection makes it dangerous.
“The road will be aligned for approximately one-eighth of a mile on each side of Greenridge Street to improve traffic safety,” said Department of Public Works Director John Clement.
Residents demanded improvements after Thousand Oaks teen-ager Lisa Aguilar died in a traffic accident in November, 1990. She suffered head injuries after she was thrown from a car. The driver, another 16-year-old, lost control of the vehicle as she rounded the curve, Ventura County sheriff’s officials said.
In February, 1991, the City Council voted unanimously to spend $200,000 to improve the road.
During construction, several lanes will be closed while workers remove asphalt paving and re-grade the road to soften the curve, Clement said.
To reduce congestion and delays, Clement suggested people use alternative routes, particularly during morning and evening rush hours. The realignment project is expected to be finished in May, he said.
