Bankruptcy Filings Hit 6th Straight Record: The number of personal bankruptcy filings last year jumped 21.5% to a sixth straight record high of 872,438, the American Financial Services Assn. announced. New England and the Northeast were the two regions with the biggest increases. The trade group, which represents the non-banking providers of consumer credit, based its analysis on statistics released by the Administrative Office of U.S. Courts. Business and non-business bankruptcies totaled 943,987 for 1991, reflecting a 21% increase from the year before.
