OUTLOOK

Scheetz has 10 players returning from last year’s team, including a solid nucleus of eight starters. Six of the returners played in at least 20 games, and Scheetz thinks the experience will help the Tigers improve on last season’s fourth-place league finish. The Tigers’ top returnees are Roskelly and Mebane, two of the best hitters in the league. Roskelly batted .447 while Mebane, who shares catching and designated hitter duties, is hitting .443. Roskelly was an all-league, all-county and a first-team all-Southern Section selection last season. Mebane was one of the top sophomores in the county and “is somebody you want to keep an eye on this season,” Scheetz said. Look for the Tigers to be in the hunt for the league title along with Brea-Olinda and Savanna. The Tigers finished only two games out of first place last season, despite having an 8-7 league mark. “It will be a very, very competitive league again this year,” Scheetz said. “It’s going to be a dogfight the entire way.”
