Cyrix Corp. to Ship New Chip in April: Cyrix Corp., which is privately held and based in Richardson, Tex., is expected to announce today that it will begin shipping next month the 486SLC for personal computers that has all the advanced technology of an Intel 486 chip, yet is one-sixth the size. It will be priced about the same as Intel’s lower-powered 386 line. The company said it expects a number of major computer manufacturers to announce within the next few weeks that they are forsaking Intel and adopting the new chip in some models. Late Friday, Intel filed a patent infringement suit in U.S. District Court in Richardson seeking an injunction to stop the sale of the Cyrix chip. Cyrix has filed a countersuit alleging the chips do not violate Intel’s patents.
