MISSION VIEJO : District to Register New Kindergartners

Share

Saddleback Valley Unified School District will hold registration for incoming kindergartners at each of the district’s elementary schools May 4 through 8.

The district will offer parents the option of enrolling their children in the Two-Way Language Immersion Program, which begins to develop bilingual literary skills at the kindergarten level.

Parents interested in the program can register or get additional information at Portola Elementary School in Mission Viejo.

Children who will be 5 years old on or before Dec. 2, 1992, are eligible to register for kindergarten.

Parents must present a state validated birth certificate, a duly attested baptism certificate or a passport as proof of their child’s age, district officials said.

Parents must also provide a current immunization record with the name of the child, birth date, date of immunization and the type of antigen used. The immunization record must also contain the stamped signature of the physician.

District officials said no child will be registered without immunizations and proof of age.

They also recommend that children have a complete health screening because such a screening will be required within 18 months of starting first grade.

District officials suggest that families who do not have a physician contact the Orange County Health Care Agency, which provides immunizations and health screenings for low-income families.

The health agency recently opened a new clinic at 27512 Calle Arroyo, San Juan Capistrano. The clinic offers free immunizations from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursdays. No appointment is needed.
