Beverly Hills : Subcontractor Settles

As negotiations continued in an effort to resolve the lawsuit between Beverly Hills and its general contractor over construction of the city’s $120-million Civic Center, agreement was reached for payment of $370,000 to settle the claims of a major subcontractor.

The decision to settle with PFC Inc., which installed drywall in the library and police station, came as insiders said there has been some slow progress in talks with a mediator to settle the basic dispute between the city and its contractor, J. A. Jones Co., before a June 1 court date.

An attorney for PFC Inc. said in February that the company had reduced its claim of $1.2 million to $450,000 in an effort to settle its case.

The attorney, Rubin M. Turner, did not return a call seeking comment on the latest development, which was revealed in documents submitted to the City Council at a special meeting Wednesday.
