COSTA MESA : $78,000 Accord OKd to Direct Fair Traffic
The City Council on Monday authorized police to enter into an agreement with the operators of the Orange County Fair to help direct the thousands of vehicles expected to make their way into Costa Mesa in July.
The two-part contract with the 32nd District Agricultural Assn. will provide the city with up to $78,000 for traffic management during the fair, scheduled from July 10 to 26. It also gives the city up to $25,000 for police services during interim events from May through December.
The number of officers used on a given day will be regulated by fair operators.
Under the contract, the department will be compensated for all police work, City Manager Allan L. Roeder said.
“We believe the $78,000 is higher than what we are expected to give in services,” Roeder said. “We will not provide any service that we aren’t paid for.”
