Titan Juniors Boyd, DeWalt Named Softball All-Americans

Cal State Fullerton juniors Tiffany Boyd and Denise DeWalt have been named NCAA Division I All-Americans by the National Softball Coaches Assn.

Boyd, who was 30-7 with a 0.75 earned-run average this season, was a first-team selection for the second consecutive season. Boyd, who was also named Big West Conference pitcher of the year, had 297 strikeouts, the second-best single-season mark in Fullerton history. Boyd attended Woodbridge High.

DeWalt, Big West field player of the year, was a third-team selection. She led the conference in batting (.377) and hits (83).

Four others who played high school softball in Orange County were picked as All-Americans. California pitcher Michele Granger, who played at Valencia, was a first-team selection; Fresno State pitcher Terry Carpenter (Edison) was a second-team selection; and Nevada Las Vegas pitcher Lori Harrigan (Magnolia) and Cal State Long Beach infielder Linda Lunceford (Trabuco Hills) were third-team picks.

Southern California College pitcher David Black, a senior from El Modena High, has been named to the NAIA All Area 1 baseball team, which covers California, Idaho, Oregon and Hawaii. Black was 9-3 with a 1.58 ERA in 119 innings.

Lewis & Clark State’s Sid Maldonado, who played at Orange Coast, was named first-team second baseman.
