World IN BRIEF : PERU : Crackdown Aimed at Guerrillas Launched

President Alberto Fujimori announced new measures to halt a wave of violence that has killed 39 people in the capital, Lima, in the past week alone. Fujimori said terrorist acts that cause loss of life will be considered treason and anyone committing such acts will be summarily tried by a military tribunal. More than 1,000 members of the security forces launched a house-to-house search in Lima for Sendero Luminoso (Shining Path) guerrillas. But there were no immediate reports of arrests.
