1 Killed, 1 Wounded in Hamburger Stand Shooting
A 17-year-old was shot and killed and his sister-in-law was seriously wounded during an apparent gang-related assault at a hamburger stand in Silver Lake on Monday afternoon, police said.
The two teen-agers were seated in the stand on North Virgil Avenue when the assailants shouted gang slogans and then started shooting with semiautomatic weapons, said Sgt. Mark Williams.
The pair were rushed to the Queen of Angels-Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital by friends in a car. Orlando Garcia died several hours after the shooting. Nora Cobos, 17, his sister-in-law, was in serious condition, police said.
Both suffered multiple gunshot wounds, police said. Detectives said the shooting was gang-related, and there was no robbery. However, investigators said they could not say if the victims were affiliated with any gangs.
