Mystery Train (Bravo Monday at 5 p.m., again at 10 p.m.) Jim Jarmusch reveals a genius for mixing up the mundane with the spiritual in this beautiful 1989 release, a jewel-like minimalist film about a group of crisscrossing tourists and outlaws during one lyrically strange day and night in Memphis.

La Perla (KCET Saturday at 9 p.m.) and Maria Candelaria (KCET Saturday at 10:30 p.m.) are a pair of landmark Emilio Fernandez ‘40s films, the first a classic parable on the perils of sudden wealth adapted from a John Steinbeck story; the second a romantic melodrama (starring Dolores Del Rio) raised to the level of poetic tragedy.

Wild Boys of the Road (TNT next Sunday at 1:30 a.m.) Although fast, breezy, naive and sentimental like many of Warners’ movies of the ‘30s, this 1933 William Wellman film offers one of the most unsparing portraits of the Depression made during its depths.
