La Canada Flintridge : Power Line Funding Plan

Share

The City Council has approved a plan to pay Los Angeles County future allocations of federal Community Development Block Grants to continue a project that would place power lines under a portion of Foothill Boulevard.

Monday’s 4-0 vote came out of concern that, in a time of budgetary problems, the city act swiftly on the exchange plan reached between the city and Supervisor Mike Antonovich in June, 1991.

Under the agreement, the city will provide the county three successive years of federal grant funds, totaling $260,000, for the Southern California Edison Co. project along Foothill, east of Lasheart Drive to Alta Canyada Road.

With the total cost of the project estimated at $277,000, the city will have to make up a $17,000 deficit. There is not enough money in the budget now, “but there should be next year,” City Manager Gabrielle Pryor said.

Councilwoman Carol Liu, whose husband is employed by Edison, did not take part in the discussion or voting.
